Very long World Cup for lots of players, a squad that's too thin and with areas that are basically nonexistent, plus a few crocks.
Eriksen's played 164 games in the last three seasons, for example. Dier's played 148, despite missing a lot of this one. Alli? 156.
Our midfield in particular has been overextended, for a variety of reasons, including our failure to replace Dembele in January.

Kane has no direct backup, so he's rushed back from every injury, gets another one and is out again.
Son has to fill in up top and he's done well there, but that leaves another space that we have to fill, rather than allowing us to rotate.

The flip side of that coin is somewhere like centre-half, where we have options.
Alderweireld was out for ages, Sanchez stepped in and covered well, then was rotated back out when he returned.
Dembele, Dier, Wanyama and Lamela were all missing for substantial periods, so Sissoko and Winks got run into the ground.
They got injured and we're now relying on half-fit returnees and it shows.

We need to trim the fat in the summer and grab some promising youngsters for the future and to add depth, too.
Our U23s need to be closer to the first team and far more competitive. We're bringing through some good players, but it's not enough.

If he is only a squad member he only needs to be fit for half the time, but when he does come on he is capable of lifting the team. When we get two new players who can do that, then we can let hin go

Players like Lamela, Winks and Wanyama need to go. Aurier too, although he’s just **** when fit anyway.

Lamela for as good as he can be just isn’t available enough. It’s become silly. He’s probably only played in about 40%-50% of the games since he’s been at the club, which is what, 6 years now?

Winks is in his third straight season as a first teamer and has missed substantial amounts in each season. Feels like the footballing gods had to even out the injuries amongst North London club’s academy players, with Arsenal suffering Wilshire and now us suffering Winks.

Wanyama’s been great since he’s been back but he’s barely kicked a ball for us in about 18 months and I just get the feeling another injury will be round the corner, especially with rumours his is chronic.

We can’t be dealing with these levels of injury prone players. We need to be able to utilise the squad, instead of running the same 15/16 players into the ground which only creates more injury problems. Club needs to be brutal. No room for sentiment or how good a player is when fit - because it’s pointless if they never are.

Winks has played 101 games in the last three seasons and there's no point in selling him, as we can't replace him.
His home and club grown status mean that we'd just had less squad depth.

A good number of them from the bench. We can’t rely on players who aren’t gonna be available regularly enough for 90 minutes.

HG spot can go to Skipp.

Skipp doesn't take up a place, due to his age.

He can still be registered if the club choose. It’s just under-21s don’t have to be registered.

Is he terrorising your cats, ****ting on your decking and digging up your lawn?

Why not? It maintains our HG quota and gets an injury-prone player off the wage bill to allows us to throw the money at someone hopefully more reliable in terms of fitness.

The homegrown quota isn't a requirement. We don't have to fill any spaces.
We have 17 non-homegrown spaces and 8 that are only fillable by homegrown players.
UEFA competitions restrict four of those for club grown players.

You're calling for a player who played 42 games for us this season with a 69% win rate and 24% loss rate (50% and 42% without) to be sold.
Not only that, but you want him to be replaced by nobody, as we can't fill his space with another player.
I really can't see the advantage of that.

The win percentage he can probably thank Sissoko for, as he was often carried through games by the big man. It was only really the last batch of games (and in Europe, where’s he looked his best) that Winks was starting to look a really decent player in.

This is his what, third or fourth significant injury now since being in the first team? And he’s only 23. I don’t know how long the surgery keeps him out for but if he misses any of pre-season then it’s just likely to result in another tough year for him.

Players like him, Lamela and Wanyama, we just cannot be dealing with all these injuries, regardless of a players’ club grown status/ talent/ reputation/ value etc. It’s no use to the club.

We don't have enough club grown players to fill our quota now. What's the point in making the squad even thinner?
Even if he's just there as backup, surely that's better than literally nobody?

In an ideal world, a squad player should be fit 90% of the time and ready to feature in 50% of the games. If they have a worse injury record than the players they're meant to be covering, what's the point in retaining them? It's like someone leaving the office on maternity leave only for their replacement cover to announce after a week that they're pregnant with triplets. It's so counter-intuitive that a player who supposedly extends/stretches themselves less due to fewer competitive minutes still ends up injured more often than those who are killing themselves over 50 game seasons.

Look at the likes of City. Yes, their bottomless pot of gold helps but one of the reasons they're able to cope so well with long-term injuries to regular players like Mendy, Kompany, Stones, De Bruyne etc. is that their squad players such as Otamendi, Delph, Zinchenko, Mahrez and Sane always seem to be fit and available for selection. Same at Liverpool with Matip, Shaqiri, Origi etc. Meanwhile we have squad players like Aurier and Lamela who are literally never fit when we really need them to be.

Not angry at you Paul, I'm just pissed off at how much we're beginning to resemble Arsenal by indulging players with abysmal fitness levels year after year. And if it isn't the players, then either our backroom staff or Poch's training regimen need to change, or both,

I think next year we have five possible club trained players as Walker-Peters and Amos will both be over 21 and need a squad place. But we will still only have 7 home grown as only Dele and Trippier count. So Winks being sold only makes sense if Amos is being promoted. We could do with a couple more home grown players though. Foyth will use up a PL squad place next season do need to get someone out at least. Signing three foreign players would need four to be shipped out. Candidates being Aurier, Wanyama, Vorm. Janssen and Lamela, I suppose. Getying rid of Winks is bonkers.
