Weren't amphetamines the order of the day back then?

They did for Tommy and Fignon admitted taking billy once too, I think.

I echo Jens Voigt that we just need a few quiet years where all the main contenders are drug free.

Next year should be great with Contador and Andy Schleck back and Rolland, Van Garderen, Van den Broek and Pinot a year older and wiser to challenge Nibali, Wiggins and Froome who will surely be given a shot after sacrificing his Vuelta and Tour for Brad.

Still, another amazing day for British cycling. You have to credit the work Dave Brailsford and the others have done at Sky.

i don't think contador will be as good if he's not on drugs

froome will probably leave sky if he wants to go for GC

Excellent news to see a British cyclists and team doing so well.

I do admire these guys..don't seen them moaning about having to cycle each day for weeks in whatever conditions they have to cope with whilst highly paid, trained and pampered footballers cry at the thought of playing 2 games in a week!

What a great spectacle this is. Better than ever this year with Brits in 1 and 2!

Looking forward to the Tour of Britain this year too - stage 1 passes my front door! Can't wait.

I've never been interested in cycling, in fact, as a former cabbie, I grew to hate the bastards total lack of road sense! These last few days however, have piqued my interest somewhat, and I can't help admitting, the boy done good!

I'm delighted for him - any Paul Weller fan's all right in my book and he comes from just up the road from me. However, I do worry that he's going to make cycling even more popular and the streets of london are going to be even more packed with people who have as much roads sense and respect for pedestrians as Ayrton Senna. I'm hoping our archers do fantastically well in the Olympics and make it so popular that people will be taking to the streets and firing arrows at the buggers....

Cavendish - World Champion (September 2011) and favourite to win Olympic Road Race
Wiggins - Tour de France 2012 Champion and favourite to win Olympic Time-Trial

In my eyes that would be a clean sweep of the major titles by Britain.

Aaaaaaarrggggh, how to ruin a moment. Lesley bloody Garrett!

Seriously, even her over the top vibrato cannot dampen this monumentous occasion for all cycling fans.
