I doubt very much that anyone will be tbh. Even if clubs finish the season and minimise tv revenue loss, think of all the matchday and retail revenue that will have been lost, not to mention sponsors getting angsty about stadiums with no crowds.

Even without COVID I don’t think many Spurs fans were expecting a big splurge tbh, not without any significant outgoings.

It has occurred to me that this might just have the opposite affect to what most think and create a "sellers" market. Now if a club is asking £50m for a player and a buyer offers £30m the seller may just think that player could earn them £30m in placings and cup runs.

Probably wrong but i still feel that it's a good theory.

It could be. I think even the wealthiest clubs will be seeking to penny pinch a little in the next 2/3 years. Like you say that could go one or two ways - sure spunking an extra 10m on that signing might cost money, but most payments are in instalments these days anyway and besides, if it gets you several places up the league consistently for the next 3 years, then it’s probably worth it in prize money or the cash you get for European competition.

The flip side is also true of course. If selling that star player gets you a windfall but winds up in you missing out on Europe for 5 years, then it’s never worth it, especially at this difficult time for finances and recruiting a replacement.

So in short it could go either way and nobody knows what’s going to happen <laugh>

Since we're quoting today's BBC gossip page...

Liverpool will not pay the £50m release clause for RB Leipzig and Germany striker Timo Werner, 24, and value him at £30m in today’s transfer market. (Mirror)

Looking forward to hearing how Saltypool's owners are tightfisted cheapskates...

Werner's having a **** season though, to be fair.
He's only got 30 goals and 12 assists in 39 games, so far. Bloody amateur.

And it's not like he's a regular for Germany, playing just seven of Germany's ten games since the start of the season...

It's probably just media nonsense. Liverpool know that Leipzig don't want to sell him or need the money.
The release clause makes him far more attainable and they'd probably like to negotiate a far higher one.

    Fraser Watch
According to Todo Fichajes, who are practically subterranean on the tier front but what the hell, Ryan Fraser has signed a pre-contract agreement with us

...even though FA and Premier League rules state that a player can't sign a pre-contract agreement with another Premier League club until the last month of their contract, meaning he won't actually be able to do so until Monday

A right footed player who plays on the left wing

    Why would Spurs want him?

    1. Squad depth
    2. Fraser can play on either wing, making him a useful utility player
    3. If we bring him in for £0 and move on (for the sake of argument) Lamela we'll have refreshed the squad while having a tidy sum to spend elsewhere
    4. We already have two goofy-footed wingers already: Lamela is left-footed yet plays on the right, while Bergwijn is right-footed and plays on the left
    5. If we're after a pacy option from the bench, I'd rather we spent £0 on someone who has shown he can do a job in the Premier League rather than the combined £19m we spent on N'Jie and N'Koudou

He's a good player that's proven in the Premier League and he's free.
Do we need a player in his position? Definitely not.

It's one of the positions that we're most stacked in.
It's the main position of Son, Bergwijn and Sessegnon, while several other players can also play well there.
Alli, Moura, Gedson and Lamela have all played in that position.

I don’t actually mind Fraser as a player but I don’t think he’s needed as already have Son, Lucas, Lamela and Bergwijn.

If Lamela or Lucas are sold then I can see why Spurs want him.

It makes sense if we're looking to move Lamela on. Lamela's a top guy and great player but far too injury prone to be a reliable option these days, he's missed something like two and half/ three seasons worth of football in seven years. If we could get even £10m for him whilst bagging Fraser on a free it makes a lot of sense to me. That would then leave us with (in an ideal world if all are fit) Son and Bergwijn flanking Kane with Lucas and Fraser providing the competition.

Sessegnon said himself recently he feels his best position is either LB or LWB and I think Jose once said he sees some Ashley Cole qualities in him too so I'd rule him out of any LW pecking order for the time being.

It wouldn't surprise me is Lucas' form this season is another reason for considering this, as he's starts to look like a Brazilian Andros Townsend this season due to how he single-handedly ruins so many moves with his decision making which, just like Townsend, becomes exasperating when the number of poor decisions greatly outnumbers the good ones
