I think a lot of that was to do with **** refs though, the technology is only as good as the officials. Prem level refs won't make ridiculous decisions if the VAR is in use, or so you would hope.

Another utterly ridiculous decision in WHU Man City game.

Off-side given in the build up to a goal where the player was level. Based on shoulder position. The games ****ed.

Offside should be based on foot position, an attacker will always be leaning forward in anticipation, ridiculous decision.

Not seen anything of this game, but I fear you're right with VAR.

Initially, I was for it. I just thought it might even out the decisions which seem heavily weighted in favour of the big sides - which it still might.

But what I since have realised, which many wiser heads did way before me, was that it kills spontaneity - is there any point celebrating a goal anymore when it goes in? Or should we just wait until its 100% confirmed by VAR and then meekly clap or summat?

This problem, for me, out weighs the problem caused the imperfect referee's calls and whatever bias they are in thrall too.

Well it's not a ridiculous decision because it's the rules. It's just a ridiculous rule. I think there should be clear daylight between the 2 players.

So what happens when the linesman flags offside like he did in another instance BUT the player wasnt offside but clean through and a free kick was awarded?

Then the lineo's made a mistake and it may or may not go to VAR.

It could be great. It can be like rugby league, every score gong to the video ref and the greatest excitement of the afternoon being everyone after a few minutes holding up a card with Goal! On it. Or not, as the case may be.
    Is there a sarcasm emoji?

Don't forget some sort of ticking clock sound effect while they review the video.

    Really ramp up the tension.

    VAR is ****.

But it would be nice seeing the big clubs get it up them. We were absolutely ransacked by terrible decisions in 16/17 or whenever Marcus Silver was here. I kept a bit of a log and it was something like 4 in our favour and 30 something went against us. And those were just goals, penalties and red cards.

No more senile than me - the referee was Jeff Winter I think. He did have City finishing up the table (14th sounds about right) and I believe he had Stoke relegated instead of us.

VAR has been a thing for about two years now and despite its increasing spread, it's not got any better. Games with VAR are all about VAR. That has been the case from the beginning and I don't see how it'll ever change. In two more years are we still going to be discussing it? I don't see how it'll ever stop ruining games. Some people say they just aren't using it right bit the whole premise is just flawed. The idea that there is such thing as a 'correct' decision, even for offsides just isn't true, as the Man City game yesterday showed.

It's generated more controversy than it's resolved.
