Will the ivy grower keep up his remarkable strike rate at Ludlow?

not easy, with no less than 5 last time out scorers in this field, but i ve got a feel, that AWEEMINIT will go very well here.she looks a typical skelton improver, and though another lbr higher for her troubles last time out,she still looks open to improvement over this longer trip.so,big shout.

some interesting horses in this, but the class horse is BYRON FLYER.he made a successful fencing debut at worcester last time out, powering clear of a useful rival, and this mark is ok,given his flat exploits.good chance, there ll be more to come for this dual-purpose horse.

Typical back end Flat fare today.

The 4.35 Kempton sees an interesting newcomer in the Godolphin colours. Desert Peace cost $1.3 Million and is a US bred son of Curlin. Curlin was a prolific winner who landed the Breeders Cup Classic and Dubai World Cup in his career. I can't say I recall any of his progeny making much impact in this country.

Desert Peace is generally 6/4 this afternoon but the big worry would be the stable form. Charlie Appleby has roughly a 27% strike rate on an annual basis but is currently running at less than 6% on 1/17 this past fortnight. I would rather lay than play at the odds in the circumstances. Mars Landing made a modest start to his career but improved on that with a runner up spot behind the well regarded John Gosden colt Palace Pier next time. The Stoute horse was no match for Palace Pier on the day but the winner is well regarded and prominent in the betting for the 2000 Guineas. Further improvement and experience gives the son of Dark Angel a chance today but he is drawn high. Nugget ran promisingly on debut, travelling well and to the fore in a 6F race at Newbury. He seemed to tire a bit in the closing stages to finish 4th and you would expect him to benefit from the experience. There is not a lot to choose between him and Mars Landing on Racing Post Ratings but the race has not worked out well so far. There are some other promising newcomers in the line up.

Looking at today's race I could not escape the thinking that Mars Landing was facing a tough task last time against a 1/8 Fav with Group race potential. He would have been a very easy winner were the Gosden colt not in the field and in that sense is probably a winner without a penalty. If Desert Peace is a star in the making then good luck to him but the Stoute horse seemed likely to progress again and I felt he was capable of running to about 90 today and that will probably suffice unless there is a smart newcomer in wait. Buffalo River won the race last year for John Gosden on his 4th start, with a performance rated 83 on RPR.

    4.35 Kempton Mars Landing 9/4

not a strong race by any means, and most of these are not in much form at present,so MR SATCO is a rather tentative choice,in the hope, that his much-reduced mark might enable him to get competitive today.has been dropped a whopping 25 lbr since his last win 2 years ago(albeit in a hunters chase..),and if he can raise his game a spot or two, wont be too far away here.

Dismal effort from Mars Landing. He missed the break and had to be ridden to get across from his wide draw. Briefly looked like getting involved but he folded up tamely, doing nothing for the form of Palace Pier. A very poor run and you would expect him to start in handicaps next season.

Hannon's Nugget travelled well again today and looked at one stage as if he might win but the slightly uneasy favourite Desert Peace loomed up menacingly before claiming Nugget for a very promising debut. He defied the poor stable form in good style. Charlie Hills' Raajin was backed and was at the head of affairs with Nugget but he could not sustain his effort and dropped away in the closing stages. A shocking effort from Mars Landing and he looks pretty modest on today's showing.

The third horse in the race was 50/1 and an exposed sort with an Official Rating on the decline to just 70. Pretty hard to get excited but the winner did it well enough today.
